Sick Weekend

This was the most profitable weekend to date!

On Saturday afternoon I totally redid my setup. I picked up two 22" acer monitors and set them side by side and the setup is ABSOLUTLY DISGUSTING... its so sick ... now i dont have to use my crappy ass laptop which couldn't run any animation and sounds when i play LOL. I'll post pics of my setup later.

Anyway Andrew came up for the weekend to attend some poker seminar which was not very usefull because its basically a summary of harrington on holdem. The reason he went to the seminar is because theres a 150 person tournament to WSOP ME after on Sunday on Everest Poker. I didn't bother signing up because i suck at mtt's, i'm mostly a cash game guy and Andrews a tournament guy... so this is our first shot at ME and he came pretty damn close... (I will talk more about it below).

On Saturday, I had some intense cash game grinding with my new setup. I was playin 6-7 deepstack cash game tables on FT and ended up like 3 buyins or something. Then after I played some random 18 person sng's for fun and won them too. Well actually technically Amy won one because I did not feel like playing the sng anymore when we came down to heads up for 2 reasons:
1) The prize for first place was not that much relative to how much i've been making in cash games
2) There was a hockey game starting in 20 minutes
So anyways I wanted to end the sng really fast and played like a donkey when Amy was like "let me play"..... so I let her play and she beat the guy heads up LOL... gg Amy your first win!

Sunday was a very profitable day too, I won maybe 1.5-2 buyins, i dont remember the exact number becuase im pretty burnt out of cash games. But the highlight of the day is Andrew going incredibly deep in the tournament for the WSOP ME.... he ended up finishing 6th out of 101 which was a really big disappointment... 1st place was ME seat. sigh...oh well.... I told him if he wins a ME seat, i will get him a custom fulltilt hockey jersey with his name and number on the back because right now i got enough points for that haha. Oh well better luck next time!

We still have two more chances because I got a FT ticket to Main event round 2 which i'll take a stab at and Andrew won another Round 2 ticket on Everest Poker. Round 2 on Everest poker will have about 150 max again, which is a hell of a good deal. Hopefully he can take it down!

Anyway, in the begining of the term I made a goal to bring my BR to 2k, after running incredibly hot and playing so good I am finally there. GG. My next goal is going to be 4k. So keep posted!

Some hands from Canadian open poker championship

Ok so its time to talk about some hands from the tournament, where I played 5 hours of SOLID poker.. and ended up busting out with QQ against KJ. Here are some hands:
Hand 1: Stack Size:5000 Blinds: 25/25
UTG+2 limps, I limp with 77 and button makes it 100. UTG+2 calls, I call.
Flop: 8 8 5
UTG+2 checks, I check, and button checks.
Turn: 5
UTG+2 checks, I lead out for 200, Button calls and UTG+2 folds
River: 2.
I check, and button fires out 300 and I install call. Just as I thought, button shows AK.. which was a TERRIBLE play to fire the river (she could of just checked instead) and I take that pot down.
I win a few big pots from a calling station and get up to about 6.5K, when this hand happens:

Hand 2: Stack Size: 6.5K, Blinds 25/50
MP raises to 175, CO and button calls. Im in SB with AcQc so I call and BB calls too.
Flop: Jc 5c 6d
I lead out 400 and BB calls and everyone folds
Turn: 9s
I check, BB bets 600 and I call since he's probably got KJ and I got 2 over+flush with a good price
River: 8c
I lead out for 2k and BB sits there thinking for like 2 minutes and finally says "nice bet" and mucks his hand. I thought I played this hand pretty well because I lead out on the flop, so it made it REALLY hard for the BB to put me on a flush draw. So when I fired big on the river, it looked like I was trying to push him off the hand. Bleh.. good laydown sir.

Hand 4: Stack size: 8000 Blinds: 150/300
I pick up 22 in UTG+3 and limp. Button limps, SB completes and BB checks.
Flop: 2d 5c 4c
sb checks, bb checks, I pot for 1200. SB and button folds and BB sits there thinking and saying random stuff like "thats a flop for the blinds, why are you betting?" and stuff like that. Then finally folds saying "77 good". I thought about showing one of my 2's just to make the guy all confused.. but decided not to because I havnt shown down a hand in a long time.. so I'd rather keep them guessing.

After that I go card dead for like 3 levels and get re-raised when I try to make a steal with 76ss, and JT etc.. and slowly dropped to 6K with blinds at 300/600 ante 25 so I'm getting into short stack ninja mode:

Im in the button with K8 and it gets folded to CO, who is a solid player and i EXPECT him to raise with any 2 hands here to steal the blinds. With that in mind, i was planning to re-raise him when he opens for 3x but instead he shoves all in for about 6k. Bleh! cant call that.. Oh well.So I grind it out a few more hours and finally make it back up to 8K at 400/800 ante50 when the following happens:

Im in the sb with 32 off suit, and It gets folded to the button. Like I said, this guy to my right is a solid player and I knew he was going to raise with a wide range here. Before it even gets folded to him, in my head I already knew that If he raised I was going to shove him. So he raised to 2200 and I instantly say "You got me covered right? I'm all in" and push all my chips in. BB Folds. He sits there thinking for a long time and starts to talk to me:
Him: "Man 5K more, I didn't think you had that much."
I laugh and say "Its up to you, you got me covered"
Him: "Why are you raising me so much? Could it be because I'm just raising the button?"
I look surprised and basically make it look like that I never thought of that possibilty and say "Oh yah, that could be a option too"
And then after a couple more seconds of thinking, he obvoiusly mucks and says
"I was beat, nice hand"
And I was like "Yeah I had you.. I had a big ace.. good laydown" LOL

Then a couple hands after that I get 88 and was forced to call a short stack's all in and lose to TT. Then right after I get QQ and raise 2.5x UTG. The guy to my right reshoves me with KJ and I call
Flop: Q69 WOOHOOO
Turn: A
River: T
And i'm out.. pretty brutal way to lose considering I played solid the whole tournament and only went all in twice. The first time was with 32o and second time with QQ.. oh well.. 75th place out of 220 is still pretty good i guess :S

Hmm I think thats it..This was definetly one of the best weekends ever.

boo...

Well the trip didnt go to well for me, i was basically card dead the whole weekend in cash games and tournament. Despite only playing like a couple of hands in the cash game, i still made some money but andrew made 600$ picking up some big pots early on from the really horrible players. I dont really remember much about the cash game except it was full of really loose fishes and maniacs... it was just unfortunate i didnt pick up anything playable all night (andrew can tesitfy to this! )... in fact the one time one maniac who plays 90% of the pots and a big fish who was stuck like 1k both mucked, I already knew i was insta raising the pot against the leftover field which was tight/passive guys.. so i raised with 98o and a guy called and i took it down with a cbet. But hte funny part was andrew was like, 'you stole my move, i was gonna do that with 93o' lol... we think the same even tho i wasnt given much to work with!

The tournament was a complete disaster, i never made any mistakes except for one which was questionable at most (see below), but as usual i never got anything and i busted out maybe 2-3hrs in... I can pretty much tell you all the hands i played because i played so few. Things werent going my way the whole day and the 2 times i actually got the best hands of the day (AJ and QJss lol) people came over the top of me...
I only won one pot the whole day, chopped one, and lost all the other ones LOL

Hand 1:

i limp 54ss at 25/25, with 5k, guy raises to 200, there is literally 8 callers so i get a good price i call, miss flop and muck

hand 2: I get J2ss in the big blind with about 4600, CO guy limps, button limps , sb completes i check. FLOP AJ3r, sb checks, i check, CO fires (i decided to call his ass because hes been pretty aggro early and sounds like hes got air), too bad button calls and sb calls so i have to muck. Later on CO has nothing and bb had ace rag lol

Hand 3: blinds 25/50, i have about 4600 or so (just a guess). I get A4o in bb. button limps (he always limps, hes a big loose passive guy). sb complets. FLop AQ6cc. sb check, I check, he bets 100 into 150 pot, i call to look him up on the turn. Sb folds.
Turn: J. I check, he bets 100??? I could call and check river, but i decided to try to take control of the hand here and pumped it to 400, he thought for a while and called. River is a 8. I check, and if he fires i was plannin on giving it to him because i'm probably outkicked. He checks and shows A2o and we chop.. lol? wtf limp on button with a2o....

Hand 4: blinds 50/100, i get 54ss with like 4300 or so, i decide to take advantage of my tight image and make it 300 utg+3, everyone folds including some super loose guys cuz they think i got a monster and a guy in sb cold calls.. ouch... flop 5T8, the guy insta fires like 1100 into a pot thats only maybe 800 or so... lol... so i said something like 'sounds like you got two jacks over there' and mucked, he showed QQ

Hand 5: blinds 100/200, i have about 4k and Utg limps, and 2 passive guys limp on my right. The two people on my left are super tight so this is a perfect steal opportunity. I get a6o on the button and i decide to make a raise and hopefullly take it down preflop or maybe win it post flop... there was alota dead money. I made it like 1k (probably should of made it 1200, bad mistake) and the sb just cold calls LOL... I remember thinking that I didnt even want to see an ace come because shes prolly got aces... Anyway the utg limper calls and everyone else folds.... yay... flop 245r, she checks(obviously) and limper checks. Obviously the girl wants me to fire so i sit there pretending like im thinking of betting, then check. Turn 6, she fires obviously and the limper raises and im outta there. Later it turns out the guy had A3cc for a straight and the girl had QQ. Man limp calling 1k with A3cc... i dunno i guess he had a good price for calling?

Hand 6: blinds 100/200, i have about 3k and pick up AJ UTG + 2(beautiful hand!!) the sb, who just won a huge pot (from his a3cc above) and is at like 10k and he shoves all in over my raise. I think for a while, and say something like 'smells like you might have something like 77?', but then after thinking longer i decided it was better to muck because his re-shove wasnt with anything less then TT, and if he has an ace im crushed (i couldnt picture him doing that with ace rag)... so i mucked and and he showed me an ace so good laydown for me. Turns out later he had AK he said. Down to 3400 or so

Hand 5: im short now with like 3600 or so, and I get QJss utg at 100/200!!! yay!! i make it 600 again. Button shoves for like 1.5k total (i decided im calling this guy when he made the move), then SB reshoves for 5k LOLLLLLLLLLL WOOOHOOOOO....so i say to the dealer 'i get a hand again and this happens' and obviously fold. It was AA vs TT.. blah

Hand 6: im super short now, with like 2.8k or somethin at 150/300, i get the big blind and the button limps( the same loose passive guy that limped with a2o), he has about 5k and sb completes with about 3k behind, i obviously shove here because they both dont look interested at all. i shove with Q4dd and win my FIRST AND LAST POT EVER!!! YAY!!!

Hand 7: nothing really happens, i think blinds were now 200/400, and i get KT in bb with like 2.5k. One guy limps utg+2, he seemed like a pretty solid player. everyone else folds and with the two tight ppl on my left i obviously shove here for 2.5k. blinds muck and the limper thinks for a while and calls off half his stack with ATo??? wtf? if your gonna call off half ur stack u might as well raise preflop then?
Well i missed the flop and he got an ace and that was it. gg.

I got some pretty awsome pics with pros brad booth, antonio esfandiari and huck seed tho so that was definatly the highlight of my trip!

The good thing about my trip is that I can say that I really did not make mistakes, it was just that things werent going my way. everytime i had a hand someone just had to have something bigger and i made some standard laydowns which shows that at least i know what i'm doing (i could of been out much sooner). The cash games was a similar story in that there was one hand where i made a mistake, but for every other hand i played solid and good poker... i just wasnt catching any good cards oh well.

Calgary tmrw

Tmrw im going to calgary to play the CPT 500$ event. I'm soooooooo pumped and excited and hopefully I can meet some pros and take some pics with them!!

Ill probably play alota cash games on the side so hopefully I can do well, for now im planning on playing 1/2 and 5/5 so we'll see what happens.

I feel like im at the top of my game right now because the last week ive been playing a ridiculous amount of poker and my reading situations is incredibly good, especially the last few days where i made some pretty sick laydowns. Hopefully things go good!
