Well today is the first day of school... which kind of sucks and is kind of okay at the same time. I was looking forward to school and doing something other then playing poker 8hrs a day lol. This term i'm taking 3 CS courses (security & privacy, networking and 4th year UI) as well as an econ 301. I have a feeling its gonna be a pretty busy term, but I don't mind because the CS courses seem very interesting. That and i believe the assignments are group projects which is always fun.
Anyway I've been in Waterloo since last Tuesday. Since Amy spent 24 hours a day studying (literally) I had nothing to do but to hit the tables! Lucky for me I broke out of my downswing recently so the results from last week weren't too bad. I ended the week about +575 over the course of 16K hands. Thats not too bad and I'm definately happy with at least having a winning week after the horrible end to August.
After this downswing, I can definitely understand why people would say downswings can really destroy your bankroll. I used to always hear people warn about tilting off several buyins and doing stupid shit they normally would not do during bad times, and i would always think to myself that i would totally not do that. But i did! It got to a point where i just wanted to win something and i kept shoving my overpairs and not wanting to fold them because I want them to hold up one time! Anyway, despite a huge downswing , I have to say that I am actually happy to go through it because it really caused me to tweak my game a lot and really analyze all my plays. I actually feel like i've improved my game almost 200% which is really good. I think most of it is in fact that I would now review all my big losing hands at the end of each session and talk to Rich(RJEJ84) about them. He really helped point me in the right direction because during my downswing I was really playing like shit and doing things that I normally wouldn't! I remember there was so many times where I would go back and review hands and during the replay I would be like 'wtf am I thinking here, i should obviously be folding' WHAT I SHOVED?!?!. That forced me to drop the number of tables to six and focus on making good decisions as well as re-programming my autopilot.
Anyway, I have almost built my roll back up to when it was pre-downswing and hopefully I can win about 1k more, in which case I will begin to move up levels. Rich and I are plannin on climbin the microstakes together so hopefully we can do it soon!
In other news, I have decided to go for Ironman this month because Ive already played so much. I never used to care about stuff like that but I figured I might as well and you can get some pretty cool stuff in the store.
Last night Andrew also final tabled the 24K guaranteed, but busted out 6th for 1600$. The biggest score for him so thats good, and hopefully its the first of many to come!
